"The grace of our Lord Jesus be with you all."
If you are planning on visiting with us on Sunday May 10th (Mother's Day) make sure you come to the right location. Because the Cabin Restaurant will be open that day for business Providence Church will be meeting at the Mohican Outdoor School for our 10:30 am service.
Please also know that any who wish may bring a lunch and enjoy an afternoon of hiking and fellowship may do so. The facility and surrounding trails are reserved until 3:00. Directions to Mohican Outdoor School Jesus took 12 young men under his wing for three years and trained them in the best seminary that ever existed. In doing so he set a pattern for what a real discipleship program should look like.
We are seeking to replicate this with our young men. Each Friday a group of young men have committed to studying God's word with Pastor Matt. We meet from 1:15 - 2:30 in Ashland to read, discuss, and apply what God teaches in the book of Judges. Prior to our study some of the gang are helping with our street evangelism which runs from 11-1. They are being "doers of the Word and not hearers only." If you or your boys (ages 15-19) want to join in, drop us an email. Matt is also open to starting a group in Mansfield. So let us know if you'd like to participate in there. At Providence we like to encourage our members to be actively sharing their faith. For this reason we always have a variety of gospel tracts on hand. So, if you'd like to have some available to your customers or would like to drop one in the envelope when you pay your bills, you are more than welcome to pick up a stack.
But if you are ever in a pinch, head on over to Matt's personal website. Matt has written quite a few gospel tracts over the years to distribute around Ashland and Mansfield. Now these tracts are available for anyone to download. You may find these tracts good for a number of reasons. They have a large font for easy reading. They have a good hook to draw the reader's curiosity. They have the church's contact information (and you can change it if you want to adapt it for a different church). Most of all, they are engaging, gospel centered tracts. Whatever tracts catch your fancy, we wish you "happy gospeling." Dave Sheldon, who attends Providence Church, and his daughter Keri have just published the book they have been working on together for the last several months. The book is entitled "Resolute: An Unwavering Stance on the Truth of God's Word." Here is a summation of the book as taken from their website: The standard for Christianity is pure and sound biblical doctrine. If that standard is compromised, muddled thinking and false teaching become the new norm. Is it possible that even current mainstream evangelicalism has submitted to such negotiated ways? To find out, this book addresses three popular topics including hearing God's voice, experiencing God, and telling "your" story. This week, as we remember the events of Passion Week, Providence Church will have services at different locations. First, a Good Friday service will be held at Kendig Park in Hayesville (20 E. Main Street). It will commence at 6:30 pm and run approximately an hour. This is an informal service and those who attend are encouraged to offer personal reflections on the cross. Secondly, on Easter Sunday Providence Church will be meeting at the Mohican Outdoor School, which is located at 5370 Bunkerhill North Rd (directions here). A carry in breakfast will be served from 9:15-10:15 am. We invite you to join us for this time of fellowship. The service will commence at its normal time (10:30 am). Matt Timmons will be preaching a sermon entitled, "Persevering faith looks beyond this world and beyond the grave" from Hebrews 11. We look forward to your joining us for the worship of our Risen Lord! So you married a sinner? Welcome to the club. We all have. But you are just in luck, our latest newsletter deals with that very topic. In this issue we draw again from the sage Puritan counselor, Richard Baxter, to gain Biblical advice on Loving Your Sinful Spouse. This past Sunday we gave praise to God for the addition of our newest member. As we welcome baby Mahkila into our midst, we thank the Lord for orchestrating her adoption and placing her in the arms of a loving Christian family. We've seen something of a baby boom over the past year and a half. Mahkila makes the 8th baby born into the Providence family in that time span. God be praised! This past week a YouTube video of twin boys native to Ashland went viral. The video shows them calling their father to tell him that they have become homosexuals. Because the video is being celebrated and given radical attention world-wide, we wish to direct your attention to the following audio which was presented in February of 2013 by our elder, Jim Deweese.
The message is entitled, "Same Sex Marriage: Does it Matter?" While it focuses mainly on the contemporary challenge to the traditional family and the covenant institution of marriage, it does serve well to expresses that homosexuality is a grievous sin against God. We hope that the Biblical rule for sexuality (i.e. man's having been designed to express his God given sexual yearnings in the bond of marriage with a woman), will be heeded by all in Ashland and that true repentance will be granted to these boys. One of our members was recently featured in the Ashland Free Press. For the past several years Raylene Hlavaty has been performing characters in Chautauqua style around Mid-Ohio.
Her presentations include famed 19th century hymnist Fanny Crosby and Civil War figure Margaret Junkin Preston. Most recently Raylene has introduced Swinging with the Saints: A fast paced musical adventure through church history. In the article Raylene speaks candidly about how her performances focus on distinctly Christian themes and seek to present intriguing figures who demonstrate a fair amount of godliness. Feel free to check out her website too: www.timelessvoicesohio.com. |
