This Sunday Providence Church will be meeting at its new location. To accommodate our growth we will be holding Sunday morning services at the Cabin Restaurant, which is located at 2106 St. Rt. 603. The Cabin does not open on Sundays, which means it will provide a good place for us to meet while we continue to search for a more permanent location. Our meeting time will remain at 10:30 am. |
We encourage you to use this as an opportunity to invite a friend. Now that we have some more space and a better decor, it may provide a good opportunity to reach out.
This Sunday evening (Dec. 14) Providence will have its annual Christmas service. It is a bit different from our normal gig. Our evening will consist of various presentations from our members and united congregational singing.
We'll will kick things off at 6:30. We also invite you to bring some finger foods to enjoy with our fellowship afterwards. You can also be planning ahead to join us for our annual New Year's Eve gathering. The location is TBA, but we'll definitely be having our usual time of games & fun! Our elder Mark Hamilton is a philosophy professor at Ashland University. One of the classes he teaches is an ethics course. In it he has the students grapple with the issue of abortion. It is a great testimony as many profs across the US won't touch the issue, and (worse yet!) others tout it as a completely acceptable thing. Mark It was our great joy to welcome another little one to our church. It was also a blessed opportunity to see baby Alanna's parents stand before the congregation and publicly vow to raise this little one in the fear and admonition of the Lord. Alanna makes the fifth baby born into our congregation this year. We look forward to a few more coming in the next few weeks! May the Lord be praised for His great gifts! You are invited to come see our sister Raylene present her latest act "Swinging with the Saints: A fast paced musical adventure through church history." It is tonight at 7 pm at the Ashland Brethren in Christ church, which is located on County Road 1095. In this act you'll meet 15 musical pillars of the faith, such as Ambrose, Charles Wesley, Clement of Rome, Bernard of Clairvaux, John Newton, Martin Luther, John Calvin, and many more. Raylene also has a chautauqua style performance of the famous hymnist Fanny Crosby. You can see all her acts or book her for a presentation at your next event at her website Timeless Voices. How old do you think Jesus' disciples were? Many people envision them in their 20's or 30's. Some even picture them with long white beards. But the answer may surprise you. Our latest newsletter from Providence Church deals with this very question. You might be thinking that this is rather frivolous in the grand scheme of things. But the answer does have some rather interesting implications for how you go about raising your children. I encourage you to give it a read. You can check it out here: Jesus' 12 Pubescent Disciples. On October 26th, as a part of our morning service, our brother Joe Conkle will be ordained as an evangelist for Providence Church. We invite you to come and enjoy this special time in the life of Joe and our congregation. Joe had begun doing a lot of personal evangelism after an accident forced an early retirement from his work as a prison guard at Mansfield Correctional . Since then he has traveled throughout the United States doing street evangelism with different groups, including Sports Fans International. Joe's interest in evangelism has been integral to Providence's evangelism ministry. He served as a key figure in initiating the program with training congregation members in "The Way of the Master." He continues to provide opportunities for our congregation to engage in evangelism by organizing different events. This past spring Joe started a weekly street ministry in downtown Mansfield and Ashland. Many gospel conversations have resulted from this and hundreds of tracts have been distributed to people in those communities. By ordaining Joe Providence essentially does three things: 1) We confirm that the Lord has bestowed on him the gift of evangelism; 2) we publicly demonstrate our congregation's support for his work as an evangelist, and 3) further empower him with the authority to preach the gospel and extend the Lord's kingdom. If you haven't heard, Providence Church will be having some location changes during the month of October. On October 12th we will be having our annual outing to Mohican Outdoor School (get directions here). After our service we'll have a carry in meal. Our reservation goes until 3:00, so feel free to go hiking, play games, or enjoy some extra time in the fellowship of believers. If you want, check out the pics from one of our previous outings. On October 19th and 26th we will be testing out a possible new place to meet. We will meet at the Cabin restaurant, which is located just a bit further south on 603. You can get the directions here. All our services will still start at 10:30. Also note that our Covenant Theology book study will still be held at 9:30 at the Cabin. Attention members & visitors:
Due to growth we will be testing a new meeting location in hopes that it will afford us some more space. Please be advised that on October 19th and 26th we will meet at the Cabin restaurant. The Cabin is located St Rt. 603, just a bit further south of the Lion's Club (directions). The Cabin has a meeting room that holds 150, and should afford us a little more room. We know that this will not be a long term fix for our situation, but we hope that it might provide at least some temporary relief. So please be advised that October will be a different month:
All of these will have the same service start time (10:30). Please feel free to ask any questions, and certainly try and spread the word! We have another great opportunity to report! Not only is Jim speaking to a Tea Party meeting today, on Wednesday our elder Mark Hamilton will be speaking to the Coalition, a conservative political action group in Ashland. Mark was asked to speak on the topic of "God and country." The meeting will be held at the Eagles Club, which is located at 400 Eastlake Drive, at noon. |
