| Who says Reformed people don't evangelize? A couple of us passed out over 200 gospel tracts and sermon CD's at the annual Memorial Day Parade here in Ashland. When we ran out of tracts that I had made up, our brother Joe pulled out some of his own and started distributing them. Pray that the Lord will grant fruit to come of the seeds that were spread abroad! |
Pastor Matt posed as Rabbi Timmons for the evening. The people of Providence enjoyed a wonderful time of fellowship and instruction this past Sunday evening as we participated in a Seder Meal. Seder is the Hebrew word for "order" and refers to the order of the Passover meal that Jews would have observed during Jesus' time. The meal is organized around four cups of wine which correspond to the four promises God makes in the Passover. As you can see from the picture, Pastor Matt came dressed as a Jewish Rabbi in order to fill the role as the leader of the night. Other members participated in the readings and character parts which explained the drama of the supper and how the New Testament sacrament of Communion comes to be instituted through it. Once again, we thank Raylene for her hard work in organizing the event and seeing to it that all the preparations were in order so that we could enjoy a fun and informative evening. The communion of the saints is one of the sweet gifts that the Lord grants us. We had the opportunity to enjoy a hearty dose of this grace over the last couple days. We began by heading out to Charles Mill Dam for some sledding. It is quite a monster hill and with a good pack, we had some pretty sweet runs. We then closed out 2012 in grand style. Lots of our families came out to join in the celebration with games, food, crafts, and even a balloon drop at midnight (well, at least it felt like midnight to most of us!). All in all, it was a blessing to be in the presence of good Christian friends!
This year we enjoyed a number of music presentations, a black-light pantomime, and a special Christmas Chautauqua appearance by Hymnist Fanny Crosby. Interspersed among these great blessings were Scripture readings and carols sung by the congregation.
Tonight was Ashland's annual Christmas parade, and this is a shot of the tracts that were passed out prior to its beginning. There were almost 100 of them in all. You can read the whole message that it contained here. Pray that the Lord will cause these gospel messages to be read and received with gladness! After church this past Lord's Day the Providence kiddos packed boxes for the Operation Christmas Child program. These boxes were chock full of toys and other fun things and will be shipped around the world. Upon arrival they will be instruments for telling the good news of Christ.
We want to give a special thanks to our Mansfield Bible friends and all the parents who helped! Some of the Providence gang enjoyed a particularly fun afternoon of fellowship this past Lord's Day: We went out to shoot some guns! Our dear brother Anthony put together the event to teach us about gun safety and give us some extra time to enjoy each other's company.
As you can see, the Lord blessed us with a beautiful fall day. Not only did this allow us to unload a good amount of ammo, it gave us a great chance to further develop our gospel ties. Providence Church enjoyed a day of worship and fellowship at the Mohican Outdoor School this past Lord's Day. The service, lunch, and season of camaraderie out in the woods was greatly blessed of the Lord. Enjoy the picture recap!
