Joe had begun doing a lot of personal evangelism after an accident forced an early retirement from his work as a prison guard at Mansfield Correctional . Since then he has traveled throughout the United States doing street evangelism with different groups, including Sports Fans International.
Joe's interest in evangelism has been integral to Providence's evangelism ministry. He served as a key figure in initiating the program with training congregation members in "The Way of the Master." He continues to provide opportunities for our congregation to engage in evangelism by organizing different events.
This past spring Joe started a weekly street ministry in downtown Mansfield and Ashland. Many gospel conversations have resulted from this and hundreds of tracts have been distributed to people in those communities.
By ordaining Joe Providence essentially does three things: 1) We confirm that the Lord has bestowed on him the gift of evangelism; 2) we publicly demonstrate our congregation's support for his work as an evangelist, and 3) further empower him with the authority to preach the gospel and extend the Lord's kingdom.
