Our friends at the Institute for Principled Policy have put together what looks to be a fantastic spring conference  (Cheap too, as the asking price is only $20!).  Below are the details...

The Institute For Principled Policy is pleased to present “Semper Reformanda:  Engaging the World for Christ”, a biblical worldview-and-action conference designed to equip pastors, ministry leaders and others with knowledge of how the eternal truth of God’s Word has been and can still be used to provide the guidance for culture.

Our featured guest presenter will be Dr. Joe Morecraft III, Pastor of Chalcedon Presbyterian Church in Cumming, GA. Pastor Morecraft holds a B.A. in history from King College in Bristol, Tennessee, a M.Div from Columbia Theological Seminary in Decatur, Georgia, and a M.Th. and Th.D. from Whitefield Theological Seminary in Lakeland, Florida.  He is an accomplished author and researcher.

The conference will also feature sessions by other noted speakers, as well as networking opportunities and resources for your work.

Primacy of Preaching Theme of Latest Newsletter

We Reformed folk have often been accused of being a little heady.  There is a reason for that, of course.  It is because we have a high view of the word of God, particularly that of the Word preached.

You can find out some of why this is true in our latest newsletter.  This issue is dedicated to the Primacy of Preaching.

Two of the articles express the inherent power of the spoken word and why sermons ought to demand our attention.  The third deals with some practical steps on what we who listen to the Word ought to do.

Ultimately, when you come to Providence, you'll notice a special regard for this part of the service.  That's because we truly believe that this time is a "thus says the Lord" moment.

Preaching is not just a lecture in which the preacher talks about God; it is a Spirit-charged encounter with God in which the preacher, in the reading of Scripture and in preaching, proclaims the Word of God.

A Summary of Reformed Belief

Many in the Ashland and Richland area do not understand what it means to be Reformed.  Those that have some inkling will typically think it is nothing more than the 5 points of Calvinism.  This is unfortunate because the concept encapsulates so much more.

For the last several months we have been attempting to show the fuller sense of what it means to be Reformed in our monthly newsletters.  However, another helpful resource is the document put out by Calvin Seminary in 2002 entitled, What It Means to Be Reformed: An Identity Statement.

This link not only a renders a simple explanation of the main features of Reformed theology  but it also breaks them down into three helpful categories.  The headings express what Reformed believe regarding doctrine, personal piety, and cultural engagement.

The document might be enhanced by adding a few comments on the Creeds and Confessions of the church.  Those who hold to Reformed theology recognize that the voice of the Spirit as it has spoken through the church.  Our forefather's in the faith have provided us with comprehensive statements of what the Bible reveals to be used as guides and teaching resources.  This is why Reformed churches may also be called "Confessional Churches" from time to time.

All in all, the article will be helpful for people wanting to know something of who Providence is as a church.  While Providence does not mandate everyone believe these things, it does provide one with a comprehensive understanding of where the Church stands.

The Kingdom of God Prevails Over the Kingdoms of Man

The forces of evil often seem so colossal that they have the appearance of being unstoppable.  But if there is one thing that the Tower of Babel story tells us it is that the man made kingdoms are doomed to fail.

In this message we learn how God not only acts to defy and destroy the kingdoms of man, but also establishes his own kingdom in its place.

Genesis 11:1-9
