Learning to Pray

Jesus Christ was the master of prayer.  So competent was he that his disciples wanted Him to teach them to pray.  In this message we will examine Christ's teaching so that we can develop a more effective prayer life for ourselves.

Evangelizing at Ashland's Memorial Day Parade

5/27/2013

Comments

Who says Reformed people don't evangelize?

A couple of us passed out over 200 gospel tracts and sermon CD's at the annual Memorial Day Parade here in Ashland.  When we ran out of tracts that I had made up, our brother Joe pulled out some of his own and started distributing them.

Pray that the Lord will grant fruit to come of the seeds that were spread abroad!

The Parable of the Good Samaritan is one of the most beloved parables.  Unfortunately, it is also one of the most misunderstood!

In this message you will be challenged to see the parable in a new light and refreshed by the real message Jesus intended.

As many of our families are seeking to pass on a godly heritage to their children through home education, we wanted to make sure this announcement got out:

There is a Classical Conversation's informational meeting scheduled for Tuesday, May 28, 2013 (7-9 PM).  For more information see their flyer here.

Classical Conversations is a national classical and Christian homeschooling program seeking to empower parents. Classical Conversations meets once a week, providing weekly accountability, encouragement, and structure that supplement and support what is being taught at home. On a weekly basis, we offer Foundations (ages 4-12), Essentials (grades 3-6), and Challenge (grades 7-12) programs in local communities.  Find out how Classical Conversations can help you redeem your own education so that you can do the hard, but rewarding work of teaching your own children.

One of the distinct traits of Providence church is our view on worship.  We hold to what we call "the regulative principle of worship."

If you would like to learn more about it, you can do so through a couple brief articles put out by R.C Sproul and Ligonier Ministries:

Providence's Audio Library Jumps Into the 21st Century

5/14/2013

Providence has  implemented an initiative to bring our audio library into the 21st century.  We are in the process of transferring our superb selection of audio tapes over to CD / MP3.

It is our hope that we can juice up your commute to & from work or make your exercise regiment spiritually profitable.

These resources have been highly profitable in the past for grounding the saints in the truth, and we want them to continue to be profitable for our members.

The first installment to come available is R.C. Sproul's insightful series Dust to Glory.  These studies provide you with a panoramic view of the Bible's story; from the creation of Adam out of the dust to the glorious consummation of Christ's Kingdom at the end of time.

These studies are designed to help you understand the flow of the Scripture story. You will explore the major themes, events, and people of the Bible, which will in turn help you read and apply the truth of Scripture on your own.

To often Christians have a disjointed view of the Bible.  Instead of seeing the unfolding drama and the overarching narrative, the Bible is a jumble of tales that occurred "long ago and far away."   Such a view not only damages the beauty of Scripture, it hinders us from benefiting from the full teaching Scripture has to offer.

Through each of these 20 minute messages you will gain encouragement and a comprehensive mastery of Scripture.

Dust to Glory will be on the shelves soon! Look for it, and many other stimulating teachings, in the black shelves at the back of the church.

Are you a good person?

One thing that we are agreed on here at Providence church is that we are not good people.  What's more, we are out to convince others of the same!

What?  You think you are a good person?  Well then, you better click on the image to the right.  I'm betting you might be a little surprised!

Find out why we are so adamant about our depravity, and join us in rejoicing in it.

God Rules Here!

One of the distinct attributes of Reformed Christianity is that it seeks to consciously bring the Word of God to bear on every area of life.  It doesn't matter if it is politics, church life, family life, war, media, or education.  Christ is to be Lord of everything, and His word is instructive for it all.

Or, as another pastor has said, "The Bible is an expert on everything to which it speaks, and it speaks to everything."

It is this topic that our latest newsletter addresses.  This edition gives a brief introduction to what has often called "sphere sovereignty "  We will explore three main spheres of life as a way of demonstrating the comprehensive nature of Scripture.

In sum, we will seek to hear what Abraham Kuyper has said, "There is not a single square inch of which the Christ, who alone is sovereign  does not declare, 'That is mine!'"
