"The grace of our Lord Jesus be with you all."
![]() Our marriages are to reflect the harmony of heaven. This means we must work diligently to avoid discord and dissension with our spouse. In this issue of our monthly newsletter Puritan counselor Richard Baxter offers six practical tips to reduce conflict and bring about the peaceful, joyous relationship God intends. ![]() In case you have missed it, our weekly newsletters have been continuing to roll out. We have started a series on saints from Church history. It is our goal to introduce you to some of the great patriarchs that have lived since the time of the Apostles. Our first two issues have dealt with Clement of Rome and Ignatius of Antioch. Not much is known about Clement of Rome. However, Clement is significant because he wrote one of the earliest documents that we have on hand. It is his epistle to the Corinthian Church which we call First Clement. This letter delves into the unity that he earnestly desired to see in that fragmented church. I dubbed Ignatius of Antioch the "Mighty Martyr" because he was sent to Rome in order to be executed for his faith. Ignatius wasn't the first martyr, but he might be one of the most significant. His letters portray a valiant faith in the face of martyrdom. Read more about these men by clicking the links above. It affects quite a bit of our lives, especially our times of spiritual development. This month we are issuing a weekly newsletter. We'll be looking at some of the basics of family worship to help families get started in this most crucial element of a family's walk with Christ. You'll also notice a new format to our newsletter. We'll be including the text for the upcoming Sunday so that you and your family can begin to prepare ahead of time for worship. We also have a schedule of upcoming events to help keep you in the know. ![]() The latest Providence Church newsletter has just come out. This issue takes a brief look at the doctrine of vocation. Christianity is unique among religions because it exalts work and gives it dignity. Reformed Theology has historically been distinctive too, because it puts an emphasis on bringing all of life under the lordship of Christ. Why is this issue entitled, "Get Out & Spread the Manure"? Well, you'll just have to read it to find out! ![]() Christmas gets a lot of attention. That's to be expected being that it is the birth of the Son of God! But sometimes it casts a shadow over other great doctrines of the faith. This is most especially true of the Ascension of Christ. In this issue of our e-newsletter, we carve out some time to "set our minds on things above, where Christ is." (Colossians 2:2). We'll take a few moments to consider the practical implications of Christ's having been raised up to the Father's right hand. ![]() In a day where sex has become almost synonymous with sleaze and fornication, it is important to reiterate The Sacred Glory of Sexual Intimacy. This month's newsletter is dedicated to just that very thing! In this issue we'll talk about the God ordained joy of sexual intimacy and how the Scripture encourages couples to have an exuberant sex life. You will even discover how a couple's sanctification can increase the fulfillment they experience in the bedroom. In sum, this issues magnifies the good gift of the union that God bestows upon a man and woman in the context of marriage. If anything, it serves as a reminder that we are to always be intoxicated with the love of our spouse and rejoice always in them! ![]() That's right! It's that time again. The Providence E-newsletter has gone out into the wild world of cyberspace. [what? You're poor inbox didn't get one? Well then, you better subscribe!] This issue is dedicated to Islam, and focuses on how it is a self-impaling religion. You can find several articles that clearly show the logical incoherence of of Islam and utter foolishness of its claims. If you have some Muslim friends or acquaintances, this will be a vital resource for you. It also serves as a great way to see the glory of Christ as the Supreme One. ![]() The Scripture tells us to be ready to give a defense for the hope that is in us. The discipline that is devoted to this line of study is called, "Apologetics." In this issue of our church newsletter, we will explain how to engage the unbeliever so as to rightfully vindicate the name of Christ. ![]() One of the distinct attributes of Reformed Christianity is that it seeks to consciously bring the Word of God to bear on every area of life. It doesn't matter if it is politics, church life, family life, war, media, or education. Christ is to be Lord of everything, and His word is instructive for it all. Or, as another pastor has said, "The Bible is an expert on everything to which it speaks, and it speaks to everything." It is this topic that our latest newsletter addresses. This edition gives a brief introduction to what has often called "sphere sovereignty " We will explore three main spheres of life as a way of demonstrating the comprehensive nature of Scripture. In sum, we will seek to hear what Abraham Kuyper has said, "There is not a single square inch of which the Christ, who alone is sovereign does not declare, 'That is mine!'" ![]() We Reformed folk have often been accused of being a little heady. There is a reason for that, of course. It is because we have a high view of the word of God, particularly that of the Word preached. You can find out some of why this is true in our latest newsletter. This issue is dedicated to the Primacy of Preaching. Two of the articles express the inherent power of the spoken word and why sermons ought to demand our attention. The third deals with some practical steps on what we who listen to the Word ought to do. Ultimately, when you come to Providence, you'll notice a special regard for this part of the service. That's because we truly believe that this time is a "thus says the Lord" moment. Preaching is not just a lecture in which the preacher talks about God; it is a Spirit-charged encounter with God in which the preacher, in the reading of Scripture and in preaching, proclaims the Word of God. |
